Feeling 'Judged' For Being Frugal

J.D. Roth over at Get Rich Slowly recently had an excellent post about the moral components associated with frugal behavior that affect your relationship with your peers. For instance, let's say you decide to get rid of your car and ride the bus to work. Do you feel judged for being 'cheap' or 'poor' by using a more cost efficient form of transportation? Would your friends feel that you were being obnoxiously 'morally superior' for using the bus and acting smug about the cost savings? It does take a certain amount of willpower to put up with the judgmental   looks that you may receive from others for being 'cheap,' and it's equally difficult to cope with others who find consider you 'holier-than-thou' for trying to save money. It's a tough line to walk.

But ultimately, you've got to do what you think is best, others be damned. It's your life, and it would be incredibly sad if you were unable to accomplish any of your dreams because you were worried about what 'they would say.' Take a look at J.D.'s posting for a more in-depth look at the subject: http://www.getrichslowly.org/blog/2011/06/28/what-do-you-care-what-other-people-think/ .
